Guidelines
Club Practice Days
Official club practice days will be held each Saturday at St Ive's commencing at 13.30. Members may shoot at other times as they choose. Members are encouraged to use both venues.
Member training
Member training will be conducted upon request by the individual member - speak to a Committee member upon arrival.
Club Shoots
Official Club rounds will be shot on a Sunday under GNAS or FITA competitive rules no Dress Code
Handicap shoots will be held monthly and medals awarded for the winner, runner up and third placing for each classification (Junior Recurve; Junior Compound; Ladies Recurve; Ladies Compound; Gents Recurve; Gents Compound). Dress code: members are requested to adhere to the club dress code (white or forest green) where possible. Members who do not have suitable clothing may wear smart, casual clothing. Shorts and t-shirts are permitted but no jeans.
The specified rounds are subject to change. The club's Annual shoot and a Memorial shoot will be specified in due course. Any changes will be published on the club's website.
Target ranges will be left spare on all official club shoots for those who wish to shoot alternative rounds, or just practice, and for our youngest members. If members arrive after the specified start time, they may do so at any time on the non-handicap shoots only but they should consider other archers mid-way through a round. On Handicap shoots, members wishing to join the shoot mid-way through may only do so after the official lunch break. Please note that lunch times and afternoon start times are approximate and, hence, members wishing to shoot in the afternoon only must arrive sufficiently early to ensure they will be able to shoot. Members may also shoot at the alternative venue.
A senior archer on the day will be nominated field captain.
Please remember that the main purpose of these shoots is to enjoy ourselves! Members do not have to shoot the round for their gender and age (but if they downgrade, they will be ineligible for medals and a handicap score). For example, Gents may shoot the Ladies or Junior round to suit their own personal standard of archery. Equally, members are under no pressure to complete the round so do not be put off by the larger rounds.
For GNAS rounds, six sighters will be allowed before shooting commences. For FITA rounds, a 15 minute practice session will be held beforehand. However, it is recommended that members get sight marks for each distance to be shot beforehand, thus allowing the six arrows to fine tune height and windage on the day.
For rounds commencing in the morning, there will be a lunch break and members are invited to bring their own picnic.
Shooting Outside Official Club Times
St Ive's shooting ground is available at all times. Shooting at South Craven School is restricted to weekends, school holidays or after 5:30pm on a school day. Members without clubhouse keys may do so by arrangement with a key holder.
Members with a current classification / handicap may request clubhouse keys (St Ive's cost £5, returnable deposit; South Craven cost £2, returnable deposit). Please note that members without a classification or handicap and junior members cannot hold club keys and cannot shoot by themselves. Irrespective of classification / handicap, any member shooting by himself or herself does so at their own risk as their GNAS insurance will not cover them. Please contact a Committee member for further details. (Also see South Craven School - Shooting Ground Rules)
Club rules still apply and a senior archer on the day must be appointed field captain. Warning flags must be displayed in prominent places to warn the public of the danger.
Equipment Workshop
Training will be provided in respect of bow tuning, arrow fletching, string making etc immediately following the working parties. Details will be posted in the clubhouses nearer the date. Committee members or other experienced archers will always be pleased to advise on equipment issues upon request.
Working Parties
The grounds at St Ive's need to be maintained for the enjoyment of all club members. Please give up some of your time to help - do not rely upon other members to do all the work. Specific details will be posted on the club notice boards at St Ive's and South Craven nearer the time.
Further Information
Any queries please refer to a Committee member. Committee members and their contact details are on the web site and the notice boards at each clubhouse.
